About the Update

The City of Tampa is updating its Land Development Code (LDC). The LDC is the set of regulations that govern how land can be used and developed in the City. Most of the LDC can be found in Chapter 27 of the City Code of Ordinances.

A key goal of this project is to create an improved LDC that is more user-friendly -- a document that:

  • Is significantly restructured so that it is more logical and easier to understand;
  • Includes more photos, diagrams, and other illustrations to visually demonstrate key code provisions;
  • Uses more precise language to reduce ambiguity and provide increased predictability;
  • Establishes enhanced development standards (such as tree planting and landscaping requirements) to improve the quality of development throughout the City.

Project Tasks and Timeline

The project tasks and timeline are listed in order below. The project launched in April 2024 and is anticipated to be completed in the second half of 2026.
