Join us in the galleries at the Tampa Museum of Art for a conversation with Aesopbookofrot, an artist featured in the exhibition, Skyway 2024: A Contemporary Collaboration. Aesopbookofrot, a self-taught artist, will first introduce their art practice, then discuss connections to the art of Purvis Young in the exhibition, Purvis Young: Redux, with a museum educator.
Skyway 2024: A Contemporary Collaboration is a celebration of artistic practices in the Tampa Bay region, as it is a collaboration between five institutions: the Museum of Fine Arts, St. Petersburg; The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art, Sarasota; the Sarasota Art Museum of Ringling College of Art and Design; the Tampa Museum of Art; and the University of South Florida Contemporary Art Museum, Tampa. Working together, curators from each institution offer context for the diversity of art being made in Hillsborough, Manatee, Pasco, Pinellas, and Sarasota counties.
Talks at the Tampa Museum of Art are free with the cost of Admission.

AESOPBOOKOFROT = watercolor artist, writer and guitarist from NJ currently in FL. I took aninterest in writing as a kid; I love spinning words to form images. I lost my sister and later myself to substance abuse. Substance abuse is difficult for the inexperienced to understand. Creating; writing first, made me want to feel again. Months of suboxone and heroin withdrawal followed until I left NJ & started painting while separating myself from peers who were drinking and still using. Art continued to cart me through various experiences until I had so many works I began showing in STP FL. I loved Aesopica. Aesopbookofrot is the punked up version. Kirivol1/KV1 is an acronym & method with which one must try to get the lead out in order to cope.
