Through S.W.E.E.P., the Department has successfully enhanced the City of Tampa’s visual character by removing over 2,800 tons of discarded debris, a $920K value-added service that directly impacted neighborhoods throughout the City. The Department operates a thirty-seven (37) week-long neighborhood clean-up program throughout the City collecting household appliances, furniture, mattresses, tires without rims, carpet, yard waste, barbecue grills, toilets, railroad ties and other bulky (non-hazardous) waste. In FY18, the Department projects that the S.W.E.E.P. program will reduce community blight by removing approximately 3,300 tons from Tampa neighborhoods with an associated value of $980K in operational and disposal costs.
