Empower Our Families
Under the Empower Our Families initiative, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. addresses child hunger, promotes positive youth development and leadership, and mental well-being in the community. Areas of focus include:
Childhood Hunger Initiative Power Pack (CHIPP) which provides weekend and holiday meals for children within the local community, specifically Edison and Graham Elementary Schools. Packaged snacks and meals are provided to children to supplement home meals.
Youth Leadership Institute (YLI) is a youth-led and highly interactive leadership development program designed to empower and engage youth ages 11-13.
Mental Health Awareness involves raising awareness related to depression, anxiety and trauma, specifically during the month of May, Mental Health Awareness Month.
