The Parking Division offers an alternative parking solution for motorists choosing to park plug-in vehicles in downtown Tampa and Ybor City. The Parking Division has 10 electric vehicle charging stations throughout 7 City of Tampa owned and operated parking facilities.
As part of Coulomb Technologies $37 million ChargePoint America program, the City of Tampa applied for and received 10 electric vehicle charging stations at no cost to the City. In exchange for the receipt of the charging stations, the City of Tampa participated in a Department of Energy monitoring program through December 2013. The ChargePoint America program was made possible by a $15 million grant funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act through the Transportation Electrification Initiative administered by the Department of Energy. Coordination of the ChargePoint America program in the Tampa area was provided by Coulomb's Southeast distributor NovaCharge, LLC .
Vehicle owners can access the charging stations in several ways including ChargePoint mobile apps, (iPhone and Android ). Drivers can also set up a ChargePoint Network ChargePass account, use a contactless credit card or call the number on the front of the station for assistance.
The City of Tampa does not charge an additional service fee for use of the charging stations; however motorists will be required to pay the facility daily or monthly permit fee to park. The 10 charging stations have been installed at the following City parking garages (each charging station has two charging connectors, therefore services two parking spaces):
1. Fort Brooke Parking Garage (3 stations located on floor 3, north module, by Tampa City Center Breezeway)
2. Tampa Convention Center Garage (1 station)
3. William F. Poe Garage (2 stations)
4. Twiggs Street Garage (1 station)
5. Pam Iorio Parking Garage (1 station)
6. Centro Ybor Garage (1 station)
8. Palm Avenue Garage (1 station)
