Pardon our waves! BIG upgrades are on the horizon that are sure to satisfy convention-goers and local foodies alike.
This morning, construction barriers and fencing were installed right on schedule near The Sail—marking the start of a 9 ½ month project to redevelop the area.
Some of the key features of this project include expanded seating, new shade structures, upgrade restrooms, and the construction of a full kitchen and building for Big Ray’s Fish Camp.
This highly anticipated project will transform the current area around The Sail to create the NEW Sail Plaza.
Some of the changes visitors can expect to see this week around The Sail include:
- The setup of construction barriers and temporary fencing
- A restroom trailer will be set up on the front drive to accommodate Sail patrons until the new restrooms are opened
- A temporary ADA ramp will be installed where the Riverwalk stairs are located (by the dock master booth)
- Utility locations and markings will be performed around the Sail area
The Sail will remain OPEN during construction and will continue to operate after the project’s completion alongside Big Ray’s Fish Camp.
Big Ray’s Fish Camp’s second location, near The Sail, will offer one more quality dining experience for Convention Center visitors looking for a taste of local flavor. The paring of this seafood gem with the already highly popular Sail bar will offer an elevated waterfront experience for visitors and locals to enjoy.
This project is a major enhancement not only for the Tampa Convention Center, but will be a major asset to Downtown Tampa and the Channel District as a whole.
