The Tampa Fire Department is introducing the Drager Phase 5 Modified Multi Story System, an advanced training structure that replaces the current burn simulator. The Drager Phase 5, expected to be completed the week of September 11, features 15 modified shipping containers, including burn chambers, cold chambers, a tower, an elevator shaft for high-rise fire response training, and confined space training areas.

Since its establishment in 1978, the Tampa Fire Training Grounds has served as a facility for firefighter education for more than four decades, however, over the past 45 years, minimal upgrades have been made to the facility.

Tampa Mayor Jane Castor, Fire Chief Barbara Tripp, and Fire Training Chief David Dittman will detail the upgrades that can be found in the new tower currently under construction and the additional support that is vital to provide firefighters the training, staffing, and equipment they need to better serve the community.
