This information is 3 months 2 weeks old and may no longer be accurate.

In recognition of Purple Heart Day, Mayor Jane Castor, Tampa Councilman Luis Viera and State Senator Jay Collins will join with the local Military Order of the Purple Heart Chapters and representatives from Florida Gold Star Families to raise a flag above City Hall.

This ceremony honors the courage and sacrifice of our military members who have received the Purple Heart.

The Purple Heart is awarded in the name of the President of the United States to any member of the U.S. Armed Forces who was wounded or killed, or who has died after being wounded by enemy action. National Purple Heart Day pays tribute to these brave men and women.

The ceremony will take place at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 7, at Tampa City Hall, 315 E. Kennedy Boulevard, on the corner of Kennedy Boulevard and Franklin Street.

To further honor Purple Heart recipients, Old City Hall will be illuminated in purple from August 5-7, starting at sunset.
