TAMPA, FL. (October 22, 2024) -- The Tampa Police Department will host a specialized water training session for law enforcement canine (K9) units from across the Tampa Bay area on Wednesday, October 23rd, 2024, at 10:00 am. This unique opportunity will take place at Adventure Island water park, just before its seasonal closure.

The abundance of waterways in the Tampa Bay area often requires K9 teams to be prepared for the potential to participate in aquatic searches for criminals and missing persons. This training session will help K9s become more comfortable and proficient in water-based searches, ensuring they are well-prepared for when they are needed to respond to real-world scenarios.

During the training, K9 teams will engage in various exercises, such as tracking suspects through water and apprehending individuals who have jumped into bodies of water. By exposing K9s to diverse environments, law enforcement agencies can better prepare their canine officers to handle a wide range of situations.

The Tampa Police Department would like to thank Adventure Island for their ongoing support of this valuable K9 training initiative. Their generosity in providing this unique training environment is instrumental in ensuring the safety and well-being of communities in the City of Tampa and beyond.
