Tampa Solid Waste Extends McKay Bay Disposal Hours Ahead of Tropical Storm Milton

This information is 2 months 2 weeks old and may no longer be accurate.

Ahead of Tropical Storm Milton, the City of Tampa Solid Waste Department will extend hours of operation at the McKay Bay Transfer Station, allowing residents more opportunities to dispose of debris from Hurricane Helene.

The McKay Bay Transfer Station will be open to the public on Sunday, October 6, 2024, from 7 AM to 7 PM.

Residents may dispose of Hurricane Helene storm debris, which includes vegetative debris, damaged household items, and construction debris.

The City of Tampa Solid Waste Department continues working daily to remove as much curbside debris as possible ahead of TS Milton in collaboration with additional city departments and contractors. Residents who currently have Hurricane Helene debris curbside are encouraged to take one of the following steps:

  • Bundle and cover any remaining curbside debris as you await City pick up services.
  • Secure debris in an enclosed area (i.e., garage or shed).
  • Bring debris to the McKay Bay Transfer Station at no cost.

For a full list of accepted items and disposal requirements, visit tampa.gov/solidwaste.

NOTE: New Tampa residents are encouraged to contact Hillsborough County Solid Waste Management at (813) 272-5680 for their storm debris collection schedule.

Yard Waste and SWEEP collection services are currently suspended. Garbage and recycling collection is still running as normal. Additional suspension of services will be determined later in the week as TS Milton approaches.
