Veterans Plaza Dedication Honors US Military Members, Families

Tampa's newest Veterans Plaza will be unveiled today.

It is the second of three new veterans memorials to be built in a Tampa park, stepping closer to fulfilling the goal of having a Veterans Plaza or memorial in each of the four City Council districts.

"Tampa has a deep and proud connection to our military, and as home to MacDill Air Force Base, so many families in our community hold the legacy of service close to their hearts," said Mayor Jane Castor. "The planning, construction, and dedication of this memorial plaza stand as a lasting tribute to that bond and the sacrifices made by our veterans and their families."

This project at Port Tampa Park took a little more than a year, from design to construction, to its dedication today.

And part of the design and build touched on another goal of every Parks and Recreation Department project: the drainage system around the Plaza was improved, so water can move more efficiently and quickly off of the street and sidewalk.
