Tampa Convention Center is proud to unveil the first of three dynamic art displays at the venue. The first art piece, titled Recurrence, is a wave-shaped structure that reflects the tides in Tampa. These eye-catching sculptures are sure to please the hundreds of thousands of visitors who pass through the center every year.
This artwork was commissioned by the City of Tampa. It was installed outside the Tampa Convention Center’s Central and West Exhibit Halls.
This wall sculpture consists of 12 curvilinear aluminum channels with LED lights. The shape of the LED lines and changing colors visualize the diurnal tidal cycle of Hillsborough Bay and Davis Island using data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). It represents the high tide and low tide of each lunar day in Tampa.
Recurrence brings the outside environment into the Convention Center and, much like the coastal city, represents the meeting point of the natural world and our built environment. It was created by Luftwerk Studio, based out of the Chicago area.
Two more art displays are expected to be completed by the end of the year.

Convention Center Improvements¶
This series of new artwork is the latest effort from the Tampa Convention Center to beautify and improve the facility in Downtown Tampa. The center recently partnered with Xpodigital to install modern and engaging LED walls throughout the building to display event information and branding.
Tampa Convention Center is also currently upgrading Exhibit Hall lighting, which has demonstrated a 174% increase in intensity resulting in reduced energy consumption and uniform lighting throughout the halls.
These ongoing improvements come after the center’s largest renovation project in history, completed in 2023, included an expansion containing 18 new waterfront meeting rooms and updates to the entire property.
