Tampa Convention Center Welcomes Historic Sorority, Alpha Kappa Alpha¶
A wave of pink and green is taking over the Tampa Convention Center, as the Alpha Kappa Alpha (AKA) Sorority hosts their 72nd Annual Atlantic Regional Conference here in the City of Tampa. More than 7,000 attendees and their family members are here for this event, and many will be wearing the organization’s colors of pink and green.
This event is expected to bring an estimated economic impact of nearly $8 million to the Tampa region, according to Visit Tampa Bay.
AKA will also be giving back directly to the Tampa community. As part of their childhood hunger initiative, members will pack bags with food to distribute to a local school. They are also donating supplies to Metropolitan Ministries to benefit people struggling with homelessness.
AKA is the oldest Greek-letter organization established by African American college-educated women. It is one of the Divine Nine, which is a group of historically African American fraternities and sororities collectively known as the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC).
Tampa Convention Center is proud to host two more Divine Nine organizations in 2025: Phi Beta Sigma and Zeta Phi Beta in July.
