Mayor Jane Castor will be connecting with students and faculty at four Hillsborough County Schools for the Great American Teach-In, which takes place on Thursday, November 17, 2022.

Media members are invited to join the Mayor as she makes her first visit of the day, speaking with elementary students at West Shore Elementary School.

Recently, West Shore's third graders have learned about government in reading and social studies and have completed their class elections for class president. They have excitedly asked to prepare questions for the Mayor.

Following her visit to West Shore Elementary, Mayor Castor will visit Roosevelt Elementary, Edison Elementary, and Sheehy Elementary.

The City of Tampa employs more than 4,000 employees with diverse skill sets, backgrounds, and interests and received hundreds of requests this year to speak with students for the Great American Teach-In.

The Teach-In provides City of Tampa staff with an invaluable opportunity to interact with students while explaining how local government operates and the many career opportunities available in public service.

"The Great American Teach-In provides the community with a way to share their profession, hobby, or interest with students," Mayor Jane Castor said. "These opportunities build background for children and help motivate them to try new things. I look forward to this day every year and can't wait to hear some of the students' questions!"
