The Florida Department of Health disclosed that a 70-year old male in Broward County tested positive for coronavirus after attending the EMS Today Conference at the Tampa Convention Center March 2nd through March 6th. The individual is now in isolation and receiving care.
The Broward County Department of Health is working with the conference organizers to inform all other attendees who may have come in contact with the attendee. Tampa Convention Center employees and partner organizations have all been made aware of this and have been provided with instructions to recognize the symptoms of COVID-19 and know when and how to seek medical attention if needed.
The safety of our residents, guests, and staff is our top priority. We are working with the Florida Department of Health to take all the necessary measures to ensure our facility is safe and clean. This includes a deep cleaning and disinfecting all areas of the convention center—especially high-touch zones—and ensuring that our staff is following the CDC’s best practices to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
The tourism industry will be especially impacted by the spread of coronavirus, and we will assist our local businesses and hotels who will endure a difficult season. But public health has to be our number one priority, which is why we are working directly with experts to determine the best course of action moving forward.
