Cultivating a beautiful lawn takes a keen eye and know-how, but it doesn’t require excessive water. The Tampa Water Department Community Water-Wise Awards recognizes attractive, water-conserving landscapes across Tampa Bay. This year’s award winners are Tampa residents Tony Monk and Megan Etue. They received a special commendation recognizing their achievement at the Tampa City Council’s meeting on November 3.
Judges say the couple’s yard is an excellent model of the Florida-Friendly Landscaping principles. They created an inviting design with curb appeal and a cozy backyard oasis. Tony and Megan saved much of the landscaping that came with the house while adding Florida native and Florida-Friendly plants that attract birds and butterflies. The design also allows the couple to avoid using the home’s automatic irrigation system.
“You’ll come home, and a sense of peace will wash over you, knowing you don’t have to mow the lawn, you don’t have to edge, you don’t have to line trim, you don’t have to fertilize, or you don’t have to reach into your pocket to pay the lawn crew every week or every month,” Tony Monk said.
In addition to the honor, Tony and Megan received a custom mosaic garden stone that recognizes their award-winning lawn.
The Tampa Bay Community Water-Wise Awards honors homeowners and businesses committed to conserving water resources and protecting the environment. Water-wise landscapes help our community and environment in several ways including:
- Reducing Water Use
- Minimizing Maintenance
- Protecting the Environment
Congratulations to Tony, Megan, and the rest of the region’s Community Water-Wise Awards participants.
