The City of Tampa is extending the opening of its cooling centers at Parks and Recreation locations in response to the excessive heat warning and heat advisories projected to affect the city through Wednesday, August 16, 2023. Cooling centers will be staffed by City of Tampa employees, AmeriCorps service members, and Red Cross volunteers.
The cooling centers reopened at 11:00 am on Monday, August 14, 2023, after approximately 140 residents took advantage of the service during the first three-day period. Cooling centers will remain open through Wednesday, August 16, 2023, from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm daily.
Cooling centers are free and open to the public to ensure the safety of residents who are exposed to extreme heat conditions. Light snacks and water supplies will be available.

In addition to cooling centers, residents are encouraged to take advantage of the 12 pools and 9 splash pads that are operated by the City of Tampa and located throughout the city. Open swim hours at the City of Tampa’s pools are now free through the month of August with no Rec Card required.
