PURPOSE: In its continuous efforts to keep residents informed on the approaching storm, the City of Tampa will be hosting regularly scheduled press updates at the Emergency Operations Center (EOC), beginning Tuesday, August 29, until further notice.
SPEAKERS: Mayor Jane Castor, Fire Chief Barbara Tripp, and Police Chief Lee Bercaw, along with Emergency Coordinator John Antapasis.
Note: The City’s Hispanic Liaison and an ASL interpreter will be available for Spanish-language media outlets and the deaf community.

AROUND THE CLOCK PRESS UPDATES BEGINNING TUESDAY
As Hurricane Idalia approaches the Florida Gulf Coast, prompting school closures and evacuations in certain areas of the Tampa Bay region, city leaders are working around the clock ensuring Tampa is ready for severe weather and the risks it poses to life and property.
Beginning Tuesday, August 29, 2023, Mayor Jane Castor, along with Fire Chief Barbara Tripp, Police Chief Lee Bercaw, and other emergency personnel, will be hosting regularly scheduled press updates on weather conditions and other critical information.
While it is activated, media crews are permitted to remain inside the Emergency Operations Center overnight.
Please note, one office space on the first floor of the EOC will be made available to media outlets as a resting room. Press briefings will be held in a large break room, also on the first floor. Media outlets will be permitted to do live shots inside the briefing room outside of regular press briefings. Once storm conditions worsen, media outlets will not be permitted to go in and out of the building for live shots and must either shelter inside or vacate the building.
