This weekend is all about the kids as we prepare for another Gasparilla Pirate Invasion.
Tampa Police Bicycle Operations and Response Unit will be teaching kids from the community about bicycle safety, including how to properly wear a helmet, check for traffic at intersections, and maneuver their bikes through an obstacle course during this year's Tampa Police Bicycle Safety Rodeo.
The bicycle rodeo will be held from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm on Bayshore Boulevard, between Rome Ave and Dakota Ave. Officers will provide 200 free bicycle helmets to kids who don't have one yet. Officers will also assist parents in registering their family bicycles with the Tampa Police Department. Registering is free and gives the bike an ID number, making it easier for officers to recover it if the bike is stolen.
The Tampa Police Department bicycle rodeos help support the City of Tampa Vision Zero Action Plan goal of eliminating all roadway deaths and life-altering injuries while increasing safe, healthy, equitable mobility for all. Promoting bicycle safety helps reduce the number of citizens seriously injured or killed in traffic crashes and encourages everyone using our shared roadways to be aware of how they can help us make Tampa safer, together.
