Doyle Carlton Dr & Laurel St Intersection Improvements

Primary Details

Description

This project will remove the slip lanes on all approaches to tighten up the four way stop intersection. It will also include new sidewalk connections and curb ramps for the surrounding areas to access the riverwalk easier and more safely.

This project provides for reconfiguring the existing 4-way stop intersection with yield-controlled right turns into a single-lane roundabout intersection. The proposed improvements also include wider sidewalks, buffered bike lanes over the Fortune Taylor bridge, and shorter pedestrian crosswalks.

Currently, the intersection at Doyle Carlton Dr and Laurel St consists of a 4-way thru stop intersection, each approach including a yield controlled dedicated right turn lane. The proposed roundabout improvement will reduce vehicle, cyclist, and pedestrian conflicts providing a safer multi-modal intersection in line with the City’s Vision Zero initiative while maintaining the existing roadway’s level of service.
