All are welcome to sing Tampa a very happy 137th birthday alongside city leaders and historians Monday, July 15, 2024. The special event precedes a week-long line up of special events showcasing the city's history over the past century.
Coinciding with Archives Awareness Week, at this event hosted within Old City Hall, attendees will hear from City Council Member Charlie Miranda, who has served Tampanians for more than 30 years as a member of the Tampa City Council and Fred Hearns, curator of Black History for the Tampa Bay History Center who will be giving an informative talk about Tampa's first form of government and what life was like 100 years ago.
Since no birthday celebration is complete without cake and candles, following the formal event in Council Chambers, a reception will be hosted in the Sister Cities room on the first floor of Old City Hall. A commemorative brochure will be available for those who want additional reading material, carefully compiled by the City of Tampa's Archives and Records Department. A digital copy can be viewed here.
