City of Tampa Leaders Sharing Update on Hurricane Helene Preparations

The City of Tampa will hold a press conference at 5:30 PM today, September 25, at the Emergency Operations Center to provide the public with updates on the city’s preparations for Hurricane Helene, as well as expected impacts from the storm. The press conference will immediately follow with the release of the 5 PM storm track update from the National Weather Service.

Speakers at the press conference will include:

  • Tampa Mayor Jane Castor
  • Tampa Fire Rescue Chief Barbara Tripp
  • Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw
  • Cherie Jacobs, Manager of Media for TECO 
  • Hillsborough County Commissioner Harry Cohen

City of Tampa Hispanic Liaison Maribel Garrett will provide Spanish translations and relevant information for the Hispanic community, and an ASL interpreter will also be present to ensure accessibility for all residents.

The City will address ongoing emergency preparedness efforts, essential safety measures, and steps for residents to protect themselves and their property as Hurricane Helene approaches.
