Critical Stormwater Clearing Post-Storm

With post-storm operations in full swing, the City of Tampa's Stormwater crews are gearing up for a weekend of drain clearing.

Tropical storm force winds, heavy rainfall, and flooding caused by Hurricane Helene left behind debris on roads, drains, and ditches.

Clearing this debris is critical to ensure the Stormwater systems can operate to their maximum capacity before the next storm. Clogged systems worsen flooding issues, which is why crews work year round to keep them as clear as possible.

After Tropical Storm Debby, the Stormwater teams removed approximately 84 tons of debris. Hurricane Helene is expected to have produced much more.
