Tampa Prepares for Another Severe Weather Event

This information is 1 month 2 weeks old and may no longer be accurate.

Ahead of this weekend’s severe weather predictions, the City of Tampa will be opening sandbag sites.

Sandbag Sites

On Saturday, October 5, 2024, from 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M., the following two sandbag sites will be open for local residents and business owners who want to fill sandbags to protect their properties.

  • Himes Avenue Complex (4501 S Himes Avenue)
  • Al Barnes Park (2902 N 32nd Street)

The National Weather Service forecasts are showing the increased likelihood of a heavy rain event affecting the Tampa Bay area from Sunday through Thursday next week.

Flooding

Drivers are urged to avoid driving through floodwater and report flooded streets or debris on the roadway to (813) 274-3101 so the Tampa Police and Mobility departments can work together to secure the area. Electric vehicles should also be parked on higher ground, given the risk of fires if the batteries come in contact with floodwater.

Comfort Stations

The City of Tampa’s three Comfort Stations, activated following Hurricane Helene, remain open for residents until further notice. Food, water, free laundry assistance, charging stations, and FEMA resources are available.

  • DeSoto Park (2617 Corrine Street) - 7:00 am to 7:00 pm daily
  • Marjorie Park (97 Columbia Drive) - 7:00 am to 7:00 pm daily
  • Gandy Civic Association (4207 W Oklahoma Avenue) - M-F only, from 7 am to 6 pm
