As part of the City of Tampa’s ongoing efforts to support small and minority-owned businesses, the Purchasing Department and Office of Equal Business Opportunity were proud to host the first Prime Time with Purchasing virtual networking event for City-certified subcontractors.

More than 100 company representatives joined the City of Tampa staff virtually at yesterday’s Prime Time with Purchasing event, aimed at connecting small and minority-owned subcontracting firms with large scale construction projects. During the 2-hour business outreach event, subcontractors had an opportunity to network with the City of Tampa Purchasing Department staff as well as five prime contractors to learn about opportunities to work on major projects across the city.

As many small businesses have been hit particularly hard by the COVID-19 economic crisis, the City of Tampa was proud to offer this new opportunity for certified businesses to learn about contracting opportunities and build strong partnerships.

“Our city is booming and this is just the beginning. We are building entire neighborhoods and witnessing major projects in both the public and private sectors that are Transforming Tampa’s Tomorrow. But as we grow, we want to make sure our local businesses—especially our small and minority-owned businesses—are involved every step of the way,” says Mayor Jane Castor. “Yesterday’s Prime Time with Purchasing event was the first of many more opportunities to bring everyone into the same room [virtually] so that we can build strong partnerships, lift up our local businesses, and get to work shaping Tampa’s future together.”
