City of Tampa provides vesting process for new Florida Building Code edition

This information is 4 years old and may no longer be accurate.

The City of Tampa Construction Services Division has launched a vesting process to assist the construction and development community during the transition to the new Florida Building Code 7th Edition. To help prevent major redesign in the final stages of approval, this vesting process allows construction projects nearing submittal to Construction Services to stay under the Florida Building Code 6th Edition. As this will be a modification period, staff will work with all projects to continue to provide a safe built environment during this time.

To qualify, building plans must be submitted and the application for permit accepted by December 31, 2020.

“As guardians of building safety and economic development, our Division seeks to assist our construction and development community every step of the way. This vesting process is just one of the ways we are creating efficiency, improving our processes, and transforming Tampa’s tomorrow,” said JC Hudgison, City of Tampa Chief Building Official and Construction Services Manager.

The Florida Building Code is adopted and updated with new editions triennially by the Florida Building Commission. The new Florida Building Code 7th Edition will go into effect on January 1, 2021.
