Each year the award recognizes a person or organization that has made extraordinary contributions to the betterment of Hillsborough County’s Hispanic community.
Established in 2013, the award honors the late Matilda Martinez Garcia, a respected community leader and charter member of the Council, which was founded by then-mayor, Bob Martinez, in 1983.
Past recipients of the award include Ms. Martinez Garcia, Mr. Rafael Martinez Ybor, the late Dr. Luz Paredes Lono, Mr. Jose M. Gonzalez, Mr. Tony Morejon, Ms. Maria M. Hernandez and Ms. Aileen Rodriguez.
The recipient of the award will be announced and recognized at the 24th Annual Latinos Unidos Luncheon on May 3rd, 2023, at Armature Works.
