The Back to School Bash will take place at The Rock Church of God By Faith. There will be backpacks, school supplies, food, a bounce house, vendors, giveaways, fun activities, and free haircuts. The Big Red Bus will also be there for blood donations.

Meet photographer and poet Thomas Sayers Ellis. As he prepares for “The Lens at the End of Line Break,” his artist talk poetry reading, Ellis will be in-residence at FMoPA writing poems and absorbing the energy and ideas in his exhibition Paradise | Paradise Layered. Stop by and meet Ellis for an impromptu one-on-one about craft. Bring a poem, bring a photograph!

Tampa Hispanic Heritage, Inc. promotes leadership in the community by recognizing Hispanics who excel in their field and service in the Hispanic community, except the "Orgullo" category where an individual of non-Hispanic descent is recognized for their service to the Hispanic community.

Join FMoPA on Thursday, August 1, from 5:30 pm to 7 pm for “The Lens at the End of the Line Break: A Poetic Lecture by the First Photo Laureate of St. Petersburg, Thomas Sayers Ellis.”

Poet, photographer, and bandleader Thomas Sayers Ellis is the author of The Maverick Room and Skin, Inc,: Identity Repair Poems, and Mexico, a book of photographs. He co-founded The Dark Room Collective and The Dark Room Reading Series in 1989 in Cambridge, Massachusetts. His poems and photographs have appeared in numerous journals, including The Paris Review, Poetry, The Nation, and Best American Poetry (1997, 2001, 2010, 2015). In 2015, he co-founded Heroes Are Gang Leaders (HAGL), a literary Free Jazz band of artists who were awarded the American Book Award for Oral Literature in 2018. Having recorded six CDs to date, HAGL has performed in Paris, Berlin, Gdansk, The Hague, New York City and Lisbon. He is the recipient of a Guggenheim fellowship in Poetry. His most recent book is Crank Shaped Notes (Arrowsmith Press, 2021). TSE was named the first Photo Laureate of St Petersburg, Florida in 2023. Paradise Paradise Layered, a new book of photographs is forthcoming midsummer.

The Jackson In Action 83 Foundation, in partnership with the Florida Blue Foundation and the Tampa Bay Lightning Foundation, is proud to announce its newest program, "Mind Masters," a wellness workshop for rising middle schoolers. The inaugural event will feature a keynote address from international speaker and mental health advocate Nate Evans Jr., while distinguished psychologist and executive coach Dr. Nekeshia Hammond will address the parents of the youth during a morning session to provide them with tools to help them navigate their child’s emotional health. All parents will receive a copy of Dr. Hammond’s newest book Mindset Training: Conquer Your Mind and the Rest Will Follow. Former Tampa Bay Buccaneer Ali Marpet, who is currently working on his doctorate in psychology, will also make a special guest appearance. In addition to the thought-provoking breakout sessions led by Evans and Frameworks of Tampa Bay, the youth will end the day with their choice of an interactive therapeutic session with options including yoga, art therapy, pet therapy, photography, or physical movement.

The event will mark the third anniversary of Vincent Jackson Day, honoring the legacy of our foundation's co-founder who passed away suddenly in 2021. August 3 was chosen to celebrate and remember the beloved man who proudly wore #83 during his NFL career.
