About Us - The Mayors' Hispanic Heritage Committee

Hispanic Heritage Committee members with Mayor Castor

The City of Tampa Mayor's Hispanic Heritage Committee was formed in 1988 as a City Employee volunteer committee. Because of our sponsors, in 1994 we established an annual scholarship award program. In 2000 and 2001, we established two separate $10,000.00 Scholarship Endowments at the University of South Florida and Hillsborough Community College. In 2006 the committee was able to donate another $20,000 towards the USF endowment. And through fundraising events such as Latin Fest, Gala and Hispanic Heritage Celebrations, the Committee was able to fulfill our $100,000.00 commitment for Latino Scholarships at the University of South Florida.

We are truly a “grassroots”, hard working and dedicated committee and, there continues to be so much that we would like to do and so many lives that we would like to touch. We hope that you will help us celebrate our heritage and be a part of a worthy cause by becoming part of our team of sponsors.
