Tampa Police responded to an early morning traffic fatality in the 2100 block of W. Waters Avenue at 5:46 a.m. Thursday morning.
A bicyclist, a white male in his early 40s, was traveling on the sidewalk on the north side of the road when he veered into a traffic lane in the roadway.
The cyclist was struck by a white Nissan pickup truck that was traveling westbound, causing him to be knocked off his bicycle.
Officers attempted to provide life-saving measures; however, the cyclist succumbed to the injuries he sustained because of the crash.
The driver of the Nissan, a Hispanic male, remained on scene, cooperating with the investigation. There are no criminal charges or citations pending.
Traffic along W. Waters Avenue was closed to traffic for approximately 3 ½ hours to allow for the investigation. All lanes of traffic have now been reopened.
