Pre-Applications for Homeowner Disaster Assistance Program to Remain Open until Sunday, March 30th

In an effort to more rapidly process over 1,000 applications received, the City of Tampa will be ending the pre-application period for Homeowner Disaster Assistance Program on Sunday, March 30th at 5 p.m. EST. The program offers mortgage assistance, insurance deductible assistance and cost of repair assistance to income-eligible homeowners who reside within the city limits.

Residents who wish to be considered for the assistance must register and complete the pre-application by Sunday at 5 p.m. EST.

Since opening the program on Monday, March 24th, nearly 2,000 households have registered, and more than half that have completed their pre-application.

"We want to encourage homeowners who have initiated the process but have not completed their pre-application, to do so over these next three days," said Abbye Feeley, the City's Administrator for Development and Economic Opportunity. "Incomplete pre-applications will result in your case being deemed ineligible, and we want as many homeowners as possible who are interested in this aid to be considered."

The City of Tampa has a total of $3.2 million in state funding to distribute to primary homesteaded and income eligible (140% Area Median Income and below) residents. The three categories of assistance include Insurance Deductible Assistance (up to $10,000), Mortgage Assistance (up to $5,000) and Cost of Repair Assistance (up to $20,000). Once approved through the pre-application process, residents may apply for some -- or all of the three types of assistance -- but the maximum reimbursement per household is $20,000.
