Tampa Urges Residents to Stay Indoors Post-Storm, Report Damage When Safe

This information is 2 months 1 week old and may no longer be accurate.

As the City of Tampa begins conducting its damage assessments in the aftermath of Hurricane Milton, city officials are urging residents to remain indoors until it is deemed safe to go outside later in the day.

While it may be tempting to assess property damage immediately, safety remains the top priority. Please wait for official updates before venturing out.

Once conditions are safe, Tampa residents and business owners whose properties sustained non-life-threatening damage are encouraged to visit tampa.gov/SelfReport to complete the Resident Damage Self Reporting Form. This will assist the city in identifying areas of damage more efficiently and aid in reporting to Hillsborough County and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

Please note, this form is for the city’s damage assessment process and does not replace private property insurance claims.

Tampa police officers are actively patrolling neighborhoods for both areas of damage and localized flooding. A map of reported street flooding in the City of Tampa can be viewed at tampa.gov/floodmaps. To report flooding, call the Tampa Police non-emergency line at 813-231-6130.

Residential and commercial power outages should be reported to TECO by dialing (877) 588-1010.

To stay informed on post-storm updates and safety advisories, residents can sign up for text alerts by texting TAMPAREADY or TAMPALISTA to 888-777. Additional resources and information can be found at tampa.gov/hurricane.
