Tampa Police have charged 70-year-old Robert Beaty with four felonies after it was determined that he intentionally crashed into the USAA building yesterday, December 3, 2024.
At around 2:12 p.m., Tampa Police responded to USAA located at 17200 Commerce Park Blvd in reference to a vehicle that crashed inside a building.
The investigation revealed that Beaty arrived at the guard gate demanding to speak with a USAA representative. Guards refused entry to Beaty. In turn, Beaty put on a helmet, drove recklessly through the USAA parking garage, and damaged numerous fences inside the property. A marked security SUV, with two occupants inside, pulled behind Beaty in an attempt to block him, but he intentionally reversed and struck their vehicle to create space.
When officers arrived, Beaty was located on the third floor of the parking garage, where he was taken into custody.
Fortunately, no one sustained any injuries.
Beaty was transported to Orient Road Jail and charged with Two Felony Counts of Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon (Vehicle/pickup), One Felony Count of Burglary of an Occupied Structure, and One Felony Count of Criminal Mischief $1,000 or more.
Beaty is not believed to be a former employee of USAA.
Additional information will be made available pending the ongoing investigation.
