City of Tampa Hosts Stormwater 101: A Virtual Town Hall

Stormwater Virtual Town Hall

With storm season quickly approaching, the City of Tampa will be highlighting the proactive steps the Stormwater Department is taking to ready its system.

From continuously clearing debris, installing back-up generators, and other targeted improvements, the Stormwater team has been working tirelessly to prepare for another hurricane season, which forecasters warn will be more active than usual.

On Wednesday, April 16th, from 6:00-7:00 PM, community members are invited to "Stormwater 101: A Virtual Town Hall." The meeting will feature a high-level overview of the team, maintenance efforts, equipment, work locations, ongoing projects, and new measures being implemented to strengthen the City’s resilience. Following the presentation there will be a Q & A session. The event is free and open to the public, but does require registration. Interested residents should register at Tampa.gov/register and submit questions for the expert panel, which includes:

  • Vik Bhide, Mobility Director
  • Bryan Rodger, Mobility Operations Manager
  • Yuan Li, Stormwater Engineering Manager
  • Jeff DeBosier, Stormwater Engineer IV
  • Alex Awad, Stormwater Engineer IV

Some examples of the proactive steps being taken include:

  • 6-day-per-week maintenance operations
  • Adding temporary back-up generators to pump stations
  • Acquiring permanent backup generators and new monitoring and communications equipment
  • Manually switching to backup power before a storm hits
  • Establishing a new pump-station rapid response team
  • Targeted stormwater improvements in Palma Ceia Pines and Parkland Estates

We encourage all interested residents to participate by registering, submitting questions, and learning how the City is working to ensure a safer, more resilient Tampa during storm season.

NOTE: Members of the media may also sign-up and submit questions. These will be addressed after residents' questions. Please add your name and media outlet when registering.
