A combination of attentive residents sharing their concerns and pro-active patrol being conducted by Tampa Police led to multiple arrests over the weekend. Five arrests were made for felons in possession of firearms, another for carrying a concealed firearm, and a number of guns and narcotics were also recovered.

After a community member called about a suspicious person, Officers responded to the report of a black male dressed in all black, carrying two firearms in the early morning of June 10. Officers responded to the area, quickly locating and detaining the subject, later identified as Toliver Lewis. Lewis admitted to having two firearms in his possession. Officers recovered and secured a Smith & Wesson.40 caliber handgun from Lewis’ waistband and a Highpoint 9mm from his ankle. Lewis was also found to have cocaine during the arrest.
Lewis was arrested, and charged with two counts of Felon Carrying a Concealed Weapon; Armed possession of Cocaine; and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Tampa Police arrested Aristides Rios Santiago, 49, after conducting a traffic stop of Santiago’s vehicle. At the time of the stop, Santiago was found in possession of a Springfield 9mm pistol, 11.7 grams of heroin, and a quantity of Clonazepam.
Santiago is currently in Orient Road Jail, charged with Felon in Possession of a Firearm; Armed Trafficking in Illegal Drugs; Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Sell or Deliver; and FTA for NVDL.

On the evening of June 10, Tampa Police Officers were patrolling the area near N. 40th St and E. 7th Ave when they saw a 2012 white Kia Soul with malfunctioning equipment commit a traffic violation. Officer conducted a traffic stop at N. 40th St N and E. Lindell Ave. Officers made contact with both adult male occupants of the car. During the encounter, the driver, later identified as Kareem Jackson, admitted to having a firearm underneath the driver's seat. Officers found an unholstered, loaded Glock 9mm with a laser and an extended magazine directly under the driver seat. Behind the driver seat was a small black satchel with a loaded Taurus 9mm with 1 round in the chamber and 11 more in the magazine. Behind the passenger seat was a backpack with a loaded Mini Draco 7.62 handgun with 1 round in the chamber and 30 more in the magazine.
Jackson was arrested, charged with Carrying a Concealed Firearm and transported to Orient Jail. The passenger was released.

Tampa Police Officers were conducting a proactive patrol near the Oakhurst Square Apartments, due to a recent uptick in violent crime, when they observed a subject, identified as Jacques Cummings who is a known felon, loitering with a visible firearm holster protruding from his waistband. Officers quickly, and safely, detained Cummings, and recovered a Glock.40 caliber handgun with an extended magazine. There were 20 rounds in the magazine and 1 in the chamber at the time of his arrest.
Cummings was transported to booking, charged with Felon in Possession of a Firearm; and Carrying a Concealed Firearm.

Tampa Police were conducting a proactive patrol in the area of N. 29th St & E. Dr. King Blvd when they observed a white 2016 Volkswagen Passat run a red light at the intersection. They conducted a traffic stop and detected the odor of marijuana coming from the inside of the vehicle. Searching the vehicle while the driver, later identified as Deandre Engram, was detained, officers located a backpack that contained 17 bags of marijuana, a digital scale, and a semiautomatic handgun.
Engram was arrested, and charged with Felon in Possession of a Firearm; Carrying a Concealed Firearm; Possession of Cannabis with Intent to Sell, Manufacture or Deliver; Possession of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony; and DWLSR.
