Tampa Police have arrested 27-year-old Joilica Sutherland (03/20/1993)and charged her with Manslaughter in the shooting death of a 28-year-old black male on Tuesday morning.
Tampa Police responded to the Palm Ave Apartments on Tuesday morning after a female called 911 saying she shot someone before hanging up. Officers arrived to find an adult black male victim of a gunshot wound. Tampa Fire Rescue transported the victim to a nearby hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. Officers checked an apartment where the suspect was possibly hiding. Although the suspect was no longer at the scene, a gun was located on the couch in plain view.
On Tuesday afternoon, Sutherland surrendered herself to detectives and identified herself as the 911 caller and confirmed that the gun recovered from her apartment was her firearm which she used to shoot the victim. Sutherland was transported to Orient Road Jail.
