Suspect Faces Second-Degree Murder Charge

UPDATE: 

Dontavious Brown, 31, faces one count of second-degree murder for the shooting death of a relative during the early morning hours of May 3, 2023. He was taken into custody on unrelated charges following the shooting.

Brown also faces charges of felon in possession of a firearm and possession of cannabis.

ORIGINAL RELEASE: 

The Tampa Police Department is investigating a homicide involving two people who are known to each other. 

Just before 3:30 a.m. on May 3, 2023, officers were dispatched to a home in the 3300 block of E 26th Avenue in reference to someone being shot. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male victim with a single gunshot wound to his upper body. 

Through investigative means, detectives learned that before the shooting, a verbal altercation took place between the shooter and the decedent at the home. They are relatives. The shooter is in custody on charges unrelated to the homicide. Additional charges are forthcoming.
