The Tampa Police Department arrested an 8th grade student at Stewart Middle School on Monday morning, after it was reported that she was in possession of an electronic stun weapon.

On October 10, 2022, an observant parent noticed 14-year-old Sharamini Brewer at a school bus stop activating an electronic stun weapon, designed to look like a lipstick case. It was not used on, or aimed at, any other individuals. The parent contacted the school, who in turn notified the assigned School Resource Officer. School officials met the bus as it arrived at the school and escorted the student to the administrative offices.

The teen’s backpack was searched by school staff, who located the electronic device. The School Resource Officer secured the weapon. Brewer was arrested and charged with possession of a weapon on school property, a felony. She was transported to the Juvenile Assessment Center (JAC).

"While we often say it, this is a prime example of ‘See Something, Say Something’ at work,” said Chief O'Connor. "In this case, a member of our community did not hesitate to say something when she had a concern for the safety of others. As officers can’t be everywhere at all times, we rely on our community to be our additional eyes and ears in reporting any type of suspicious activity so we can address it quickly.”
