City of Tampa to Close Offices on Thursday due to Tropical Storm Helene

Due to the impending arrival of Tropical Storm Helene, all City of Tampa offices will be closed on Thursday, September 26. This closure allows city staff to focus on emergency response efforts as the storm approaches.

Additionally, garbage, recycling, and yard waste collection will be suspended on Thursday for both residential and commercial properties.

The Tampa City Council Workshop scheduled for 9 a.m. Thursday, along with the evening session, will be postponed, with agenda items to be rescheduled for a later date.

City parks will remain open to the public on Wednesday, September 25. However, all programming will be suspended on both Wednesday and Thursday as Parks & Recreation staff transition to storm-related duties, including shelter staffing.

 

Sandbag Distribution

City of Tampa sandbag distribution sites resumed operations at 8 a.m. Wednesday and will remain open until 7 p.m. for all City residents. On Tuesday, September 24, a total of 23,800 sandbags were distributed to the public.

Sandbag locations include:

  • Himes Avenue Complex: 4501 S Himes Ave, Tampa, FL 33611
  • Al Barnes Park: 2902 N 32nd St, Tampa, FL 33610
  • Al Lopez Park: 4810 N Himes Ave, Tampa, FL 33614

Residents are eligible for a maximum of 10 sandbags per household and must present identification verifying residency within city limits, such as a driver’s license or utility bill.

Evacuation Zones

Residents are encouraged to visit Tampa.gov/hurricane to determine their evacuation zones in anticipation of any potential storm surge impacts.
