City of Tampa, Arts & Cultural Affairs Manager, Robin Nigh, was recently named one of the top 25 creative revolutionaries that lead the way for positive change by CODAworx, the hub of the commissioned art economy. This recognition is for those who have devoted their careers to making the world a more meaningful place.

Called by CODAWorx, a “magician for art and culture of the city,” Nigh, an early pioneer in the field of contemporary public art, has over thirty years of experience in the field and developed nationally recognized programs that were also firsts in the field, including the Photographer Laureate Program and Lights on Tampa. Nigh started her career in art history and education and managed Sculpture Chicago in the 80s, after receiving her Master in Art Theory and Criticism at the Art Institute of Chicago.  She’s worked for the City of Tampa since 1999.

Over the past month, the City of Tampa has installed two significant installations for Lights on Tampa, “Biobridge” by artist Andrea Polli at the Harbour Island Bridge at the Riverwalk, and “Circles Unity” by Erwin Redl in the Channelside Drive Tunnel.

“We are so proud of Robin and all that she has accomplished with the City of Tampa. Her visionary talent and eagerness to shine a light on local, national, and international artists have resulted in truly unique and impactful art installations across our city,” says Mayor Jane Castor.

Public art is essential to beautifying our neighborhoods, honoring our history, celebrating our community, and defining our Tampa story for generations to come. Congratulations to Robin for this well-deserved recognition, we are grateful for all that you do to celebrate art and culture in our community.”

“I am honored and blown away by this recognition, but it must be shared with many colleagues in the City of Tampa as we all pull together to make it possible, especially my team of one, Melissa Davies,” says Art Programs Manager, Robin Nigh. “It is rewarding beyond measure to be able to make a difference in our beautiful city through the arts.”
