The City of Tampa will launch its newest Crosswalks to Classrooms project at Robinson High School on Saturday, May 14, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. This is Mayor Jane Castor’s 11th Crosswalks to Classroom, the first of 2022, and the first to involve five crosswalks painted in one day!

The five crosswalks include:

  • Mid-Block Crosswalk at Mango Ave.
  • Crosswalks at intersection of Mango Ave and Lois Ave
  • Crosswalks at intersection of Rembrandt Dr and Lois Ave

The City’s Crosswalks to Classrooms program supports the Vision Zero mission, eliminating all traffic-related fatalities and serious injuries, which is one key facet of Tampa Mayor Jane Castor’s Transforming Tampa’s Tomorrow initiatives.

“This project is a great example of a public partnership between a private developer, the neighborhood, and the City of Tampa,” said Danni Jorgenson, City of Tampa Transportation Engineering Manager. “The developer met with and listened to the community and offered street murals to be good community partners.”

Crosswalk murals are effective tools for improving street safety, enhancing the livability of our streets, revitalizing public spaces, and bringing communities together. Crosswalk murals also help to calm traffic by adding visual interest to an intersection or street.

Event is sponsored by ZOM Living, and artwork will be provided by local artist Jay Giroux. This event is being done In partnership with Robinson High School and Hillsborough County Schools.
