The City of Tampa is working to modernize an electrical co-generation facility with heat recovery for anaerobic digesters located at the Howard F. Curren Advanced Wastewater Treatment Plant. Biogas is a product of organic waste breaking down in anaerobic digesters. Biogas cogeneration allows the simultaneous production of electricity (co-generation) and heat. The electricity can be used to power the surrounding equipment and the heat is reused to regulate the high temperatures necessary for microbes in the digester. Co-generation maximizes fuel and converts it into electricity with 35% efficiency and into heat with 40% efficiency. The City is updating co-generation equipment, which is scheduled to be operational in the Summer of 2022.
We are excited to work on this issue. If you have questions email Whit Remer.
