Officer Rolla Standau, age 22, had crossed the Holtsinger Bridge heading south on North Boulevard when a car hit his motorcycle head-on at Union Street and killed the patrolman of one and a half years.
Officer Standau, whose father and namesake also served as an officer, had been recommended for a Medal of Honor for saving a drowning man in the Hillsborough River.
