City of Tampa to Celebrate Women’s History Month - Josephine Howard Stafford Memorial Award to be presented at celebration

The City of Tampa will hold its 24th Annual Women’s History Month Celebration on Tuesday, March 3, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. The event will be held at the Tampa Bay History Center, located at 801 Water Street. The celebration is free and open to the public. Free parking is available with a validation from the event at the Pam IorioGarage located at 301 Channelside Drive. 

 

Mayor Jane Castor will present the 2020 Josephine Howard Stafford Memorial Award to Jean Duncan, P.E. The field of engineering is predominantly pursued by men, and Jean is the first engineer to receive this award. Throughout her career at the City of Tampa, Jean has demonstrated outstanding leadership ability. She was appointed as Manager of the Transportation Division by Mayor Iorio in 2009, appointed by Mayor Buckhorn as the Director of Transportation and Stormwater Services in 2014, and was recently appointed by Mayor Castor as Infrastructure and Mobility Administrator. 

 

The Josephine Howard Stafford Memorial Award was created to honor a current or former City of Tampa female employee who demonstrates outstanding commitment to her position and the community. The award is presented in memory of Josephine Howard Stafford who served as an Assistant City Attorney for 24 years. Ms. Stafford was the first female judge in Hillsborough County and a pioneer for women’s issues, both professionally and in the community. 

 

The keynote speaker will be Pat Frank, Hillsborough County Clerk of Court and Comptroller. Stacie Schaible, News Anchor at WFLA News Channel 8, will serve as the Mistress of Ceremonies. The celebration will be recorded and replayed at a later date on City of Tampa Television, Frontier Fios Channel 15, and Charter Spectrum Channel 640.
