City of Tampa Provides COVID-19 Recommendation of Cancellation for Large Public and Private Gatherings

This information is 4 years 8 months old and may no longer be accurate.

The State of Florida, City of Tampa and Hillsborough County have all declared a state of emergency to institute measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19.  The Governor of the State of Florida has asked that local governments limit or postpone large events or gatherings. The City of Tampa has already cancelled several large City-sponsored events, including the River O’Green Fest and the St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

The City of Tampa has received several inquiries regarding the propriety and/or necessity of cancelling other public and private gatherings. After consultation with Tampa Fire Rescue personnel and others, until further notice, it is the City of Tampa’s recommendation that any public or private gathering of 250 or more people in size should be cancelled. This recommendation is consistent with guidelines of the Centers for Disease Control as a preventative measure designed to limit the potential community exposure to and transmission of COVID-19. Other factors to consider, regardless of the size of the gathering, is whether persons attending have traveled to or from other countries, or whether persons attending are a member of a vulnerable classification or population.

The City of Tampa, in coordination with County, State and Federal agencies, will continue to monitor this fluid situation and provide further advisories as necessary.
