As we step into the holiday weekend, Mayor Jane Castor has partnered with local religious leaders on a PSA, reminding Tampa’s faith community that we’re “We’re all in This Together” when it comes to stopping the spread of COVID-19.
The PSA features religious leaders representing Tampa’s diverse population, joined together in an inspiring message of unity. In the video, Tampa residents are encouraged to continue practicing their faith traditions while adhering to social distancing policies. The PSA launches as faith communities throughout Tampa prepare for important festive and religious celebrations. The PSA asks Tampa’s faith communities to “virtually” join hands in a message of love to keep Tampa safe from COVID-19.
“Our places of worship have shown incredible resilience, adaptability, and strength—providing hope to our community in a moment of darkness,” says Mayor Jane Castor. “Because of coronavirus, many church pews, synagogues, and mosques will be empty for the first time during religious holidays — but that doesn’t mean these groups aren’t celebrating. We are learning to celebrate in new ways—including at home, over the phone with loved ones, via live streaming, and even in our cars for drive-up service. I am so proud of how our faith organizations are working together to uplift our community’s spirit while keeping us safe.”
