City of Tampa Parks & Recreation Department Sharing Best Practices with Summer Camp Providers

The “Reopen Your Summer Camp Responsibly” webinar takes place on May 29

 

The City of Tampa Parks and Recreation Department is taking steps to ensure private summer camps are reopening responsibly amid the COVID-19 crisis. The department is hosting a virtual lunch and learn for camp administrators and coordinators on May 29. The “Reopen Your Summer Camp Responsibly” webinar for camp providers is a free resource. To join the session, participants must register by selecting the “Camp Administrator Webinar” link on tampagov.net/parks

 

During the one-hour webinar, Parks and Recreation Manager John Allen will guide camp providers through the City’s plan for hosting camps at more than a dozen sites this summer. This thorough plan includes the CDC’s best practices for youth and summer camps in addition to sanitization standards, modified drop-off and pick-up procedures and recommendations for social distance-friendly activities.  Allen will also share the department’s new health check and illness policy, which is part of a series of enhanced protocols aimed at keeping children and staff safe.

 

The City plans to kick-off its summer program on June 1 with a limited capacity, two-week camp at select locations for children ages 5-12. The traditional -- Recreate, Educate, and Create (REC) Summer Camp -- starts on June 15 and will include additional camp locations.  

 

Children ages 13-18 years old are encouraged to participate in the Stay and Play program, which takes place daily from 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.This teen-centric program is also scheduled to begin on June 1 at select recreation centers.

 

All programs will adhere to CDC, state, and local health department guidelines.
