The City of Tampa will ring the clock tower bells at Old City Hall and light up Old City Hall and downtown bridges red, white, and blue as part of a national moment of unity to memorialize the lives lost to COVID-19 in cities and towns across the country. Old City Hall and the Bridges will remain lit up red, white, and blue on the 20th as a sign of unity on President-Elect Joe Biden’s Inauguration Day.
“In this pivotal time in our nation’s history, the City of Tampa is proud to join other cities across the country who will stand together for a moment of unity as we remember the lives tragically lost due to COVID-19,” says Mayor Jane Castor. “My hope is that with the start of this new chapter, we can find our common ground to move forward as one nation with more empathy and understanding of one another. We have a lot of work to do, but by coming together as Americans, I know that we can recover from this pandemic and come back stronger than ever before.”
The bells of Old City Hall will ring 10 times at 5:30pm tonight, January 19th, and the building will light up red, white, and blue tonight and Wednesday night in honor of the Presidential Inauguration.
