Mayor Castor Nominates Chair Citro to FLC Board of Directors

Mayor Jane Castor announced today that she has nominated Council Chair Joseph Citro to serve as the City of Tampa’s representative on the Florida League of Cities (FLC) Board of Directors.

“Council Chair Citro understands how important it is that we defend home rule and stand-up to preemption,” Mayor Castor said. “He has seen, firsthand, how decisions made in Tallahassee can impact our local communities and our quality of life.”

The FLC’s mission is to promote local self-government and serve its 400+ member cities, towns, and villages from every corner of the state. Members include Republicans, Democrats and unaffiliated community leaders who support limited government in Tallahassee with local voices making local choices.

“Freedom is about self-determination and governance at the local level,” Chair Citro said. “Not only because we understand the needs and wants of our neighborhoods but that we are held accountable for the consequences of our decisions everyday when we go to the grocery store or a Little League game. Recent preemptions have led to legislators in Tallahassee allowing 5G towers to be placed in front yards and in the middle of sidewalks in neighborhoods across Tampa.”

This follows the recent mayoral appointments of Councilwoman Lynn Hurtak to the boards of the Tampa Bay Area Regional Transit Agency and the Tampa Bay Estuary Program.
