Tampa Police arrested 28-year-old Richard Lam and charged him with murdering an adult white male in his early 50’s and then stealing his car.

On the afternoon of May 1, 2023, Tampa Police responded to the report of a maintenance worker finding the deceased body of an adult male inside a residence at the Beck Apartments, located at 8801 Hidden River Parkway, the victim of upper body trauma.

Investigators immediately began gathering evidence and developing leads in the case. Surveillance footage collected during the investigation also showed Lam near the residence at the time of the murder. Fingerprints found at the scene were identified as belonging to Lam. The investigation also proved that Lam and the victim were known to each other.

On May 2, the victim’s vehicle was located in West Palm Beach County. The Tampa Police Department Fugitive Apprehension Unit (FAU) was able to determine Lam’s location. Working closely with partners from the US Marshals Office, FAU officers were able to apprehend and arrest Lam on Monday morning.

Lam was charged with Murder and Grand Theft Motor Vehicle.  He is currently being held at Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Dade County.
